Thank you all for showing up and helping us! Your commitment is very much appreciated!
In order to help in the best possible way, it’s important that we all follow some basic rules and stick to the structures we were able to build over these last days.
It’s crucial that every volunteer has gotten a proper briefing by our coordinators before they start working in order to be updated about the necessary information and procedures.
Please do not just show up and start to the best of your knowledge and belief. We know you all have the best intentions, so in order to avoid confusion and chaos, you all need to get a briefing by the coordinators and follow the procedures.
<aside> 😷 You have to come tested and wear a mask when needed! A Covid Outbreak decreases the numbers of volunteers and vaccination rate in the Ukraine is 20-30%. Please do a test before (or on site).

Please make sure that everyone feels welcome and safe. And by everyone we mean EVERYONE. We do not differentiate where they are from. Nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age or gender DO NOT MATTER. We are here to help every human (and every pet) that arrives in Berlin. There are special stations for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+. Please bring people there if they need special help. Make yourself familiar with the location of all imprtant stations before getting started.
Better be safe than sorry - unfortunately there are people who are taking advantage of the current situation. We’ve experienced very unpleasant situations with people, especially men, approaching our volunteers asking them to host women (with children), even offering them money to do so. Also there were cases where they tried to approach children/ unattended minors. We HAVE TO MAKE SURE that everybody who arrives here is safe! Look out for suspicious situations and approach everyone whoo seems „sketchy“ to you. If you feel unsafe – immediately contact the police. Also if someone approaches you with a weird request, tell them to please wait where they are, reach out to your coordinator and have them handle that person.
Keep calm. The situation is stressful and we encounter devastating situations. Nevertheless please don’t panic. Stay friendly and calm and don’t make the people feel even more stressed than they already are.
No photos! No volunteer takes pictures or videos. Not for you private album, neither for you social media. If you see other people taking photos, ask them for their press ID. Without this they are not allowed to take pictures. Respect peoples‘ privacy!
Stay safe!
We are so thankful for your support! Please make sure to look out for your own safety! Situations here can get not only chaotic, but physically and mentally exhausting. Take breaks if needed, eat and drink enough and feel free to go home at any time ( ;) but don’t forget to bring back your vest please). There are psychologists available not only for the refugees but also fort he volunteers through the DB (069 265 26255). Do not put yourself in any type of danger. Contact the police immediately in dangerous situations.
